Scientists have recently discovered evidence that the Yunnannoso is the oldest known primitive vertebrate. A primitive vertebrate refers to an extinct vertebrate. But they are closely related to living vertebrates.
Researchers studied 127 fossil samples and used methods such as X-ray microtomography, scanning electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectrometry, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,
and energy diffused X-ray spectroscopy.They came to the conclusion that the Yunnan Nozoans had cellular cartilage in the pharynx. which is a characteristic of vertebrates
The research team, which includes members from the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Paleontology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Nanjing University, published their findings in the journal Science on July 8, 2022. |
